THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE CARRIACOU MAROON & STRING BAND MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Grenada Board of Tourism in its role as Executive Producers for the Carriacou Maroon and Regional String Band Music Festival, in collaboration with the cultural community of Carriacou, is pleased to announce that a launch event for this Festival will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11.30 a.m. in Hillsborough.
The launch is expected to be attended by the Ministers for Culture and Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs - Senators Arley Gill and George Prime. The Honourable Elvin Nimrod, Member of Parliament for Carriacou and Petite Martinique has also been invited to the launch.
A number of Carriacou sponsors as well as sponsors from the mainland are expected to be present.
The Festival itself, billed as a major brand event for Carriacou, will take place from April 30 to May 2, 2010 and will feature traditional smoke food, big drum nation dance and other cultural art forms of the people of Carriacou. A specially exciting feature will be string band music with bands coming from the British Virgin Islands, Tobago, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Carriacou scheduled to perform.
This Festival is the first of its kind in the region and is expected to be a strong tourist attraction for Carriacou. It is a cultural entertainment and educational product and a celebration of the culture of the people of Carriacou.
